Well, before you read any further, I'd like you to watch this really short, interesting video about the Google Glass: http://www.google.com/glass/start/how-it-feels/
So what are your thoughts? Mesmerized? Amazed? Concerned? Confused? The Google glass will bring new meaning to the phrase "Look at the world through my eyes". So the next time you go sky diving, your whole group of friends can live the moment with you without stepping out of their homes. The first word that springed to my mind when I saw the Google Glass demo was spontaneity . The time between taking a pic or a video and sharing it is almost zero. The fact that the Glass operates through voice commands is really cool, so your hands are always free to do important stuff (like holding the steering wheel). The glass will surely reduce road accidents that happen due to incessant texting and calling. They are less intrusive and not unwieldy like todays smartphones.
Its not an ideal device. Yet. People already wearing prescription glasses might not be able to use it properly. The interface, though simple, is very new, very different and it should be interesting to see how older people receive this device. The glass could appeal to the older generation, who have always found smartphones to be a bit too complicated for their use (which is very true). I don't know how I would feel with people walking around wearing the Glass. Folks using bluetooth headsets in public are annoying enough and now we have this! The biggest concerns with the Glass should be safety and privacy. Why safety? Well, the Glass might be a blessing for people who drive and text (and call, and attend meetings), but it will certainly make pedestrians more distracted. Privacy is the biggest concern. With the glass, you can be video taped and you wouldn't even realize it. Now everyone is on camera. YouTube will have a field day, almost every embarrassing act, every drunken rant will be caught on the Glass and uploaded instantly. Well played Google.
The Glass may not be a perfect device. I believe its the first step towards a more practical, intuitive communication device. I'm sure the privacy concerns will be addressed in future versions. With the rumored iWatch (thats iPhone on your wrist) and with Microsoft making big moves with Kinect-connected devices (motion control), these are exciting times for consumer technology.
