We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression.
Thats what Tyler Durden believed . Surely hollywood is right? They have stuff figured out. But is that really true? Are we a whole generation of men/women without a sense of purpose? Are we just consumers? Is our sole purpose to stand in queue for the next iPhone or the new XBox? Are we so entangled in the myriad of technology that we are contributing virtually nothing?
There was the era of the wheel, the steam engine, the light bulb, the automobile, the computer, the internet. We are now in the era of technology. Do you feel lucky to be born in an age where you can Skype/Google Talk when you miss someone, use Google/Bing when you're lost (or to do your home work), be in touch with long lost friends through Facebook. We now have an app for virtually every human need/emotion. Should we feel lucky or overwhelmed? Is the Google glass what we really need? Is the Microsoft slate the hallmark of this generation?
I believe it is. All these inventions are no less important that the say the light bulb. They bring us one step closer to being a world society. They inform us, educate us, expose us. I strongly feel that technology is making the world a better place. Be it healthcare, education, communication, personal finance or selling your lawn mower. The purpose of this generation is to make sue that this advancement continues. This may appear overwhelming because we haven't quite reached the stage when technology integrates with our lives in a way that is holistic and natural. But advancements in Wearable Technology, Artificial Intelligence - User Interfaces, Natural Language Processing, Data Mining etc. will make this possible. Eventually.
